So I arrived 2 hours before the event last night and waited for the arrival of the team and the security coordinator. He ( coordinator) and I have crossed paths over the years but have never met.
As the team arrived we did the standard introductions. The shift leader last night arrived and we stared at each other trying to figure out where we knew each other. Immediately we hit it off but then again I haven’t met a devil dog that I didn’t get along with. Their personality is where I dwell in every aspect of my life that I’ve lived. Of all the police departments I could have joined I chose the hardest and most elite- the Maryland State Police. When it came to pledging a fraternity I chose the hardest and gave up my blood, sweat and tears to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. But I digress. Me and whiskey whiskey got along perfectly, by mixing humor with professionalism.
As the other guys arrived I sensed that there are many jewels in this area after all. I met a PSD guy who was on leave with a subsidiary of BW, that was sharp as a samurai sword and his friend who was green in the business, exhibited the personality of someone with years under his belt.
The remaining team members flowed through the course of the night and seemed comfortable with the detail. I did get a chance to meet one guy in particular that used to be a writer for soldier of fortune in the 80′s and 90′s when SOF used to infil their people to hot LZ’s to cover stories.
All in all it was a great experience and opportunity to meet great guys that I thought didn’t exist in this area anymore. Great eye opener.
