I warned you many times in the past.

For those of you that follow the blog I have repeated the importance of staying relevant with your clients and their colleagues. I mentioned the blog that I did titled, “Occupy Wallstreet-Occupational Responsibility” Where I sent an email blast to all of my clients that the Occupy movement effected.  That week I received numerous calls from clients and many of their colleagues that had been forwarded the email.  Including in those calls were a few corporate CSO’s who asked about the email and my perspective of how I thought the movement would evolve.

That email and supporting reports evolved in over 20 details across the nation.  Many of you supported that effort as sub-contractors in your specific AO [area of operations]  Why am I repeating this again?  Because it happened AGAIN yesterday when 58-year-old Jeffrey Johnson, a disgruntled former designer of women’s accessories at Hazan Imports entered the building and killed Steven Ercolino who is listed on his LinkeIn profile as the vice president of sales at Hazan Import Corporation.  What is “AGAIN” you ask?  It is these types of terrible and unfortunate incidents that WE have to step up to the plate and do our job.  Rather than sitting back and arguing back and forth if the shooting between Johnson and police was justified in the crowded streets of New York City you should have been gathering as much intel as possible to reach out to your clients and let them know that you are there for them.

Workplace Violence is REAL [The title of my email] and there is a large number of Fortune 1-5 companies as well as smaller companies that have not been consulted on safe termination procedures, pre and post behavior indicators etc that can assist in their safety and forecast a potential problem before it occurs.  Isn’t this the essence of what we do, or at least claim that we do? Before you start going down that dark road- This not the old ambulance chasing Attorney stigma. We are not, at least not supposed to, waiting for tragedy and capitolizing off of it. We PREVENT tragedy and further tragedy from occurring.

So, if you did not reach out to your clients or potential clients yesterday – YOU ARE LATE!  Better late than never is NOT a cliche that I espouse to nor do I like hearing it.  It conjurs some level of justification for being late and that is not acceptable.  But for one time and one time only I encourage all of you to reach out to your clients NOW.  If you are a specialist that subs under a protection provider, reach out to them and give them a gentle nudge to do so.

By the way this is one of the BPI Security’s “Top 10 Secrets to building relationships” that I released this past week. Hopefully those of you who answered the call read these and followed through.

    Eric,
I hadn’t looked at it from that perspective, but that would be the perfect time to reach out. Appreciate the pearls, warrior.
